Vytautas has been on internships and worked in restaurants abroad, including Noma of Copenhagen. When he returned to Lithuania, V. Samavičius was probably the first among the renowned kitchen chefs to open his own catering place back in 2010. Before Momo Grill and Monai, he and his wife Kristina owned “a bistro with a creative cuisine” – La Cle. Even before that, he worked as the chef in Navalis hotel as well as in restaurants Skandalas and Radisson Blu.
His colleague, who fully supervises kitchen processes in Momo Grill – Valdas Anusevičius. He has been working with Vytautas for 12 years already. Thus the Samavičiai family can absolutely trust Valdas’ order in Momo Grill and focus more on Monai, which is a little more dynamic.
The main menu of Momo Grill is not big, however, each dish is sophisticated and worthy of attention. And even though grilled dishes are more often meat dishes, lovers of fish will also enjoy their meal here.
All starters and main meals are prepared in the special Josper grill oven, which costs as much as a luxurious car, thus the taste and aftertastes of dishes could hardly be replicated without this device. Yes, indeed Momo Grill were the first ones in Lithuania to purchase such an oven.
By the way, every day this restaurant serves the special of the day – this is a dish which depends on the catch of the suppliers or the special meat which comes to the restaurant on that day. Actually, meat travels to the restaurant both from local organic farms and suppliers abroad.
While fish, irrespective of the fact that the restaurant is located at the seaside, reaches the grill from abroad thus looking for the best quality. It is important to mention that everything in this restaurant is prepared on the spot and just for one day.
LUNCH OF THE DAY.
The menu of the day is different every day. On working days the menu includes a soup of the day (EUR 1.5), a salad and, for main courses, meat and fish (EUR 4.50-8). The menu of the day will also always include special momo sausages (from EUR 6). The kitchen makes these sausages on the spot and, without them, for regular visitors this place would not be the same.
The restaurant’s walls reflect travels of the Samavičiai family. The interior causes many associations: it reminds a little bit of a butcher’s shop (maybe because of white tiles on the walls), industrial chandeliers create a loft-like impression, while a lot of heavy wood creates a cosy emotion of the home.
Such interior partially reminds of Scandinavia where Vytautas spent quite a lot of time. One thing is clear – when the Samavičiai family opened their place 2.5 years ago with such interior, they broke the ice in Klaipėda. By the way, this year they fully refurbished crockery, napkins, salt-cellars and other appliances served on tables.
It has turned out that residents of Klaipėda are not lovers of wine. They are more loyal to beer. Thus the wine list of Momo Grill is not extensive: 5 sorts of red wine and 5 sorts of white wine. Actually, these 5 sorts of wine continuously change. Alongside the dishes, you can also taste beer from local breweries and the iconic beer Raudonų Plytų (Red Brick).
When a restaurant is quite small and popular all around Lithuania, getting a table without an advance booking, especially in summer, would mean that you were born under a lucky star.
The restaurant has its own mobile application! Those who have a Momo Grill app are the first ones to find out about the novelties of the menu and offers of the lunch of the day. The app is updated every day.
